Westchester County has spent well over $100 million fighting flooding since 2009, and the Board of Legislators has approved a further round of flood mitigation projects covering New Rochelle, Croton-on-Hudson and Bronxville.
The New Rochelle work targets the Stephenson Brook watershed and involves installing modern stormwater drainage — new drainage pipes, catch basins and related infrastructure designed to move stormwater away from flood-prone neighborhoods.
Why this matters in District 11: flooding is not an abstraction here. It is basements, insurance claims and streets that close in a heavy storm. The test of any capital programme is whether the money reaches the blocks that actually flood, on a schedule residents can check.
